You realize that two of the kids on the block have been watching you every evening when you set out on your run. They are high school age, and some of them started to run with you. One of them, Billy, asked you some pretty good questions about what you were doing and if he could run the race, too.
Why not train them! They come over every afternoon and stretch with you. You checked with their parents to see if it was okay, and you even called them over on the weekend for an hour to teach them all about eating right and exercise. They are really getting into it. You talked to your friend Dan at the gym, and he will let them come in and use the weight room for an hour on the weekends. You felt really proud when they entered and finished the 10K run for Thanksgiving.
You did not want a thank you from their parents. You had such a good time and felt like you were doing such a good thing that it was a great way to spend your time. In fact, you might turn your garage into a training room. When Bill, one of the boys, told you about the track coach not really knowing much about how to train for running, you spent a day at the local high school and offered your services. This has turned out to be the best idea yet! You just may have found a new career! Retirement – it’s just the greatest!
